Building Privacy from the Ground Up

Ethan Oberman

As a developer or start-up in the current technology landscape, it has become increasingly important to think about, address and implement user privacy strategies from product inception. Deploying privacy strategies in the aftermath can lead to holes or oversights.

As more and more products utilize cloud technologies, privacy will continue to be a key issue that developers must consider. Both user attitudes and increased regulation from government will grow over time (e.g. Obama’s new proposed ‘Consumer Bill of Rights’).

Ethan Oberman discusses how and why this trend is playing out in the market, as well as the “Zero Knowledge Privacy Standard”, an environment where employees may never access plaintext customer data.
